Multiple tours, Manifold challenges, Single focus  22 Jan 2020

Kalypso has begun 2020 with a bang! In mid-January itself we conducted and facilitated three simultaneous tours from one day duration to five days involving over 300 travellers and covering almost the whole of south India – all the while handling our regular cycling and birding tours.

The Indian Navy’s trekking challenge in the Suryanelli region of the Western Ghats covered 18kms in one day and involved 178 naval personnel. Two groups with 41 and 47 adventurers in each from the Northern Railways trekked and camped in the Shantanpara region of the Western Ghats for two days and covering 21kms.

And then there were the thirty Heal Cycle India Charity Challengers who cycled from Pondichery on the eastern coast to Kodaikanal the serene hill-station in the Anamalai Hills. They covered 400kms in 5 days.
And then there was the quiet sense of achievement from our regular birding and cycling tours!!

Large groups, diverse requirements, contrasting terrain, tight schedules – Kalypso is humbled by the professionalism and sheer hard work of our staff. Their exemplary dedication and enthusiasm sure won the hearts of the travellers too.
Kalypso loves to show you itinerant souls around anytime! So let’s get together again!

Success at 16500 feet!!  16 Oct 2019

At Kalypso we have always taken pride in our guides, but this day is extra-special…for, a bunch of our boys have just completed their mountaineering course at the Himalayan Mountaineering Institute and all of them have graduated with A grades!! Roger, Satheesh, Raja and Shinas – you have shone for us today!
.
.
The 28-day course involving rock, snow and ice climbing is arduous but exhaustive. It empowers the student to participate in any expedition that ventures upto 7000feet. The field training at the institute’s scenic base camp behind them, the Kalypso quartet finished the course with the tough climb to the peak of Renok at a height of 16500 feet.
.
.
We believe that our Team Kalypso occupies a singular position in that they regularly undergo refresher training in their core professional areas like rope skills, natural history, wilderness medicine etc by the best in the field. They have also received at various times, certification from pioneer institutes like HMI, Red Cross etc.
.
.
Kalypso believes that the spirit of adventure is what has kept mankind going since the beginning of Time. Today as our young adventurers receive their honours, we are satisfied we are doing our bit to keep that flame burning bright and strong.
.
.
Congratulations, Team Kalypso!

Youth Travel 2019  10 Jul 2019

Adventure and compassion beyond age and geography

The world challengers are here again! Ebullient, seeking, generous, humble – qualities we repeatedly see in them every year, cornerstones of great character in the making. A group of teenagers who recognise the world as a space beyond their immediate comfortable lives!

Primordial nature at her verdant best, fragile eco-systems and bio-diversity hotspots, understanding of different cultures and cuisines by interacting with local communities with adventure and fun being the key ingredient of every moment are all promises we keep and will continue keeping.

Kalypso welcomes this travel which has a purpose beyond mere sightseeing, which develops character in the young and contributes to the lesser-privileged communities around the world.

Giving back to the environment  05 Jun 2019

Kalypso believes in the conservation of the environment - an ethos etched in our hearts. We have made it a way of life. We view the World Environment Day as an opportunity to showcase and emphasise to the world around us the utter necessity and the urgency to act on this belief.

The beautiful Anaerangal lake (Suryanelli) surrounded by cloud-topped mountains was the arena of our bout with pollution this time. The lake situated close to the butterfly forest in Munnar is so named as its waters lure down the elephants - Anaerangal or literally, where the elephants come down!

Our team of dedicated in-house conservationists descended on the lake precincts today early in the morning to completely rid the area of plastics, other waste materials and any sign of human contamination. The trash collected was then handed over to the concerned authorities for proper disposal.

As someone said wisely, animals and birds do not litter, only humans do. So let us behave like animals for a change.
