Kerala Mountain Biking Holiday

Day1: Thattekkad
Upon arrival at Kochi International Airport, you'll be transported to Thattekkad, nestled alongside the Periyar River in the lowland forests. Check-in and prepare your bikes for the exciting challenges ahead. On the first day of your Kerala Mountain Biking Holiday, kick off with a quick ride to Edamalayar, exploring nearby forests and mountain tracks to acclimate to the terrain and climate.
Day2: Munnar
Today marks the first major challenge of your journey, ascending from 300 feet to over 4500 feet. Follow the Periyar River, passing through forests, spice plantations, and pineapple and rubber estates. From Neriamangalam, begin the uphill trek on narrow mountain roads flanked by wilderness, lakes, spice villages, and rivulets, until you reach Adimali at the foothills of the Western Ghats. Push through a tough 15-kilometer stretch to reach Munnar, a scenic town established by British planters amidst dramatic mountain landscapes featuring craggy peaks and towering redwood trees. Marvel at the awe-inspiring vistas and ride through spectacular tea gardens away from the usual tourist routes. Your accommodation tonight will be at a cozy family-owned resort surrounded by a Cardamom Estate.
Day3: Pollachi
Rise early for a ride through India's sole sandalwood forest and the dry deciduous forests of Chinnar Wildlife Sanctuary, offering opportunities to spot wildlife. Cross into Tamil Nadu, passing temple towns, expansive farmlands, and lively towns en route to the foothills of Indira Gandhi National Park—an Indian wildlife haven renowned for its diverse fauna including elephants, sloth bears, leopards, Indian Bison, dholes, and king cobras. Rest at a resort nestled amidst coconut plantations.
Day4: Valparai
Today brings the pinnacle challenge of your Kerala Mountain Biking Holiday—navigating the 44 hairpin bends along a narrow mountain trail leading to Valparai. Renowned for its tea estates and rainforests, Valparai serves as a sanctuary for the endangered Lion-Tailed Macaques. Arrive in the afternoon and settle into a luxurious tea estate bungalow.
Day5: Kochi
Spend the entire day exploring the mountainous region, venturing into rainforests to seek out endemic and endangered wildlife, including the iconic Lion-Tailed Macaques. Descend through breathtaking forest patches of Sholayar, passing lakes and cascading rivers, to witness Kerala's grandest waterfall at Athirapilly. Conclude the day with a transfer back to Kochi, where your journey began.
Day6: Depart

Holiday Feedback

We wanted to write and thank you (and your team) for an amazing cycling adventure. Francis was a fantastic guide - knowledgeable, enthusiastic and great fun to be with. Mathew was a great driver - careful, encouraging and always smiling. They worked really well as a team and we felt they adapted the trip to our needs (which we really appreciated). We loved eating in local places and felt we got to experience the real Kerala. All of the accommodation was great. Our only comment was that the tea plantation should serve local food, rather than attempt to make western cuisine. Overall we thoroughly enjoyed our holiday with your company, and would highly recommend you to other tourists. Many thanks again !!!  Camilla Josh 2016-12-29

Our trip was a really good experience for us all. The cycling took us through some beautiful areas and Vipin was careful with the safety aspects shepherding us through the busy towns and junctions. Vipin was knowledgeable about the plants and scenery and knew the route thoroughly (having clearly done it many times). Rajeev was also always attentive with the van and supplies and extremely helpful. Vipin and Rajeev were particularly good for us given that I was doing this with our two sons aged 12 and 13 who have not undertaken a trip such as this before. They were patient and had the right attitude throughout. I would have no hesitation in recommending Kalypso and Vipin for friends to do similar tours in the future. Indeed, I gave the credit to Kalypso upon us finishing the tour.  Adrian Woodcock 2019-05-01
