The Meesapulimala Trek From Munnar

Tour Overview

Walk through the high altitude grasslands and montane rainforest eco-system which is so peculiar to the Western Ghats. Ascend Meesapulimala, enjoy the breathtaking views of the vast plains of Tamil Nadu on your east and the never-ending Sahyadri on your west. Reach Munnar by 7 am. You will be met by our representative. The start point of the trek, which is about 26 kms from Munnar. Your trek will start at an altitude of 1500 m and gradually ascend to over 2600m, passing through sholas (high altitude rain forests) and grasslands which are typical to the higher areas of the Western Ghats. This region of the Western Ghats is replete with wildlife – notably elephants, sambar, sloth bear and the Nilgiri tahr - the last being endemic and endangered. You will trek along narrow paths over the undulating mountain grasslands and ascend Meesapulimala which is the second highest peak in the Western Ghats. Across the rolling hills below lies the world’s highest tea estate Kolukkumalai Tea Estate, the serene stretches of which can be quite awe-inspiring. The tea processed here using traditional methods has a unique flavor to it. Upon descent you will continue trekking through the sholas and tea gardens till you reach Silent Valley.
