Haripad Project 1

Haripad Project 1

Project Site:- Nangyarkulangara Lower Primary School, Haripad, Alleppey, Kerala

The Nangyarkulangara Lower Primary School, Haripad is a government school which implements mid day meal program. The Mid day meal scheme is a school meal program mandated by the Government of India, designed to improve the nutritional status of school-age children nationwide. This particular school had a small dining hall, only half covered by the roof, which proved difficult for the children, especially during the torrential monsoons. Four teams from World Challenge, 2016 laid tiles, completed the roof over the dining area, painted the roof and the play things were given a fresh and bright new coat of paint. This was  a blessing for the children, who now not only had access to a clean and hygienic eating space, the quality of education improved with the positive vibes emanating from the smartened up space.

Haripad Project 3

Project Site:- Erikkavu School.
This school was started by the local church with great intentions, unfortunately the management lost steam mid way and the children enrolled in this school suffered for it. With just a big hall serving as classrooms and the Principal’s chamber, the World Challenge Team stepped in to take urgent remedial action. They constructed walls to divide the common space into classrooms and a separate space for the teachers and Principal. The kitchen had lacked a countertop; they constructed a new one and tiled the said space. The art work and fresh new coat of paint on the walls of the school uplifted the ambience of the learning areas. The World Challenge Team involved with Erikavvu School made an indelible impression and impact on the school community and the members of the team were undeniably richer from the whole experience.

Germalam Project

Germalam Project

Project site : Germalam
The location was Jadaya Rudra Swamy Puram (JRS Puram), a tribal village at an altitude of 3300’ within the Germalam geographical area in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu. We identified this village in 2006, which was chronically water deficient. This had accentuated in the last few years due to population growth and indiscriminate use of ground water. Because of the same, there was an urgent requirement of provision of water for the population & livestock of the village.

The project was divided into 3 parts:
a) Digging the Bore Well - The well was dugged before arrival of the team.

b) Constructing the control room, the retention tank & the cattle feed tank near the bore well - The control room had a switch board, the booster motor & pump and control system for its operation. The group built & positioned the equipment and carried out trials. The retention tank is meant to collect water prior to being pumped through the main line to the point about 1400’ from the tank for carrying the water to the village. It was built by the group. The smaller tank is used by the cattle of the village as required. This was built by the group.

c) Laying pipeline to connect to the existing main pipeline at the disused pump house - The laying of the pipeline & connecting / testing was the task of the group.
